The Royal Academy of Dance is proud to present the Joan and Monica Halliday Awards 2025.

The Royal Academy of Dance invites students to participate in the Joan & Monica Halliday Awards 2025, a celebration of dedication, artistry, and technical skill through the RAD syllabus.

This event is designed to:

  • Build confidence in performance situations
  • Provide additional opportunities for students to showcase their skills in a supportive environment.
  • Establish a pathway for candidates to prepare for international competitions.
  • Honour the remarkable contributions of RAD Life Members Joan & Monica Halliday.

Participation is encouraged for students at all levels, as the Awards provide invaluable experience in working with peers and guest teachers. Prior to submitting an entry, all candidates, parents and teachers should ensure they have read the event flyer, including the Conditions for Entry, in full. You will be required to confirm you have read, understand, and agree to abide by these Conditions prior to submitting your entry.

Preliminary Classes: 17-19 March 2025
Venue: RAD Australia, 20 Farrell Street Darlinghurst NSW 2010

  • Grade 3 Preliminaries: Monday 17 March
  • Grade 4 Preliminaries: Tuesday 18 March

Midori Lotz

Midori is a dedicated ballet and conditioning coach who is currently a Registered Teacher, CPD Tutor, CBTS mentor and a member of the Examiner’s Panel with the Royal Academy of Dance.

Midori studied at the Ransley Dance Centre, completing RAD grades to Advanced 2, before later graduating from The Australian Ballet School (ABS) with an Advanced Diploma of Dance. During her professional training at ABS, she performed with The Australian Ballet Dancers Company for two consecutive years and in extra roles with The Australian Ballet.

She then joined the Houston Ballet, where she performed in renowned ballets such as Swan Lake, La Bayadere, The Sleeping Beauty, La Fille Mal Gardee, Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon, La Sylphide, Nureyev’s Don Quixote, Coppélia, Balanchine’s Symphony in C, and Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker.

Midori’s further studies and continued professional development include a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, teaching certificates in Yoga, Clinical/studio Pilates, Barre fitness, Reformer and the RAD’s Professional Dancers Postgraduate Teaching Certificate.

Midori’s training and professional credits provide a wonderful base for teaching and sharing her knowledge of classical ballet. She considers the whole person in dance and maintains a positive, motivating and nurturing learning environment.

Class Teacher:

Kerrie Smith

Kerrie trained under Hilary Kaplan and Archibald McKenzie at Alegria Dance Studios; studying classical ballet, Spanish, national character and the Cecchetti method. Achieving her Advanced 2 ballet examination through the Royal Academy of Dance, Kerrie earned the qualification of ARAD (Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance). She also received Honours on Advanced 2 exams with the Spanish Dance Society; Distinction on the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate; and her Diploma in Dance Education (University of Surrey/RAD). After managing the Alegria Bondi Junction branch for four years, Kerrie relocated to the Central Coast to launch Classique Dance. Via an extensive selection process, Kerrie was chosen as an Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. She continues to travel nationally and internationally, examining aspiring ballet students across the globe.  She is also a mentor for the Professional Dancers Postgraduate Teaching Certificate and the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies.
